Game on for Eight Pixels Square

A Derby company making its mark in the growing mobile gaming industry has secured a £162,000 grant and £235,000 loan from the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund.

Eight Pixels Square currently employ 43 staff following its launch last year.

It concentrates on developing free-to-play games for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

The company applied for funding to enable it to develop more of its own games in-house with the goal of doubling in size in the next three years.

Chairman Ian Sneap said: "We have a team who are very experienced in games and technology development, and they have adapted their skills to the particular demands of developing games apps for mobile devices.

"We are now ready to control our own destiny and publish a whole suite of our own games and therefore turned to the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund for support.

"We are looking to take on more than 50 new programmers, community managers, analysts, and designers in the coming years and hope that the majority of these jobs will be sourced locally – especially through the graduate market."

The £20m Derby Enterprise Growth Fund is supported by the government's Regional Growth Fund and run by Derby City Council.
