New East Mids regional chairman for IoD

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has named a new chairman to lead the East Midlands region.

Garry Smith is commercial director of The Nottingham Trent University, a director of local channel Notts TV, as well as vice-chairman of the IoD's Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Committee.

His career has spanned the commercial, blue chip and public sectors and running his own company.

Development of the higher education sector has become one of his specialisms and he will also represent the East Midlands on the IoD's National Council.

He takes over from Peter Fothergill as regional chairman, who has served two terms in the position.

Smith said: "It is a real privilege to represent the Institute of Directors in the East Midlands.

"These are exciting times as the IoD develops a new strategy and promising times for the business community. The region has an important part to play in the success of the national economy and I will champion this during my term of office."
