Vet business opens its biggest practice

An Ashbourne-based veterinary practice has built new premises following a £960,000 investment from Lloyds Bank.

Derbyshire Veterinary Services was able to commission the building work after agreeing a £900,000 development funding loan from the bank.

The purpose-built practice has three consulting rooms, two operating theatres, three wards and a separate equine area.

A further £60,000 hire purchase facility from Lloyds Bank Commercial Finance helped with the purchase of a gas anaesthetic system, utilising an on-site oxygen generator, as well as a digital x-ray system.

Derbyshire Veterinary Services grew out of an existing business founded in Ashbourne in 1967. It is now one of the largest providers of veterinary care within the area, currently employing 43 staff.

The new surgery is the company's fourth and largest site in the region.

Partner Michael Colgan said: "Since our inception, we have been proud to offer an unrivalled quality of care for animals, and this investment from Lloyds Bank will ensure that this continues to be the case as we move forward."

Rachel Yates, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, added: "Through this financial package, the business can proceed with plans to increase its number of employees, helping to generate new jobs and further boost the local economy."
