Westleigh to build Leicester properties

A partnership between Westleigh and Leicester City Council will result in 19 affordable houses being built by 2015.

Nine new homes are set to be built at The Fairway on the city's Saffron Lane Estate. The development, offering two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, will regenerate a former council depot.

Meanwhile, on Hamelin Road, near Western Park, a former garage site will be turned into ten two-, four- and five bedroom homes.

Gary Turner, head of investment and partnership at Westleigh, said: "The demand for affordable homes is increasing and by working with local authorities, such as Leicester City Council, we are able to bring forward even the most challenging sites for re-development, putting brownfield land back to good use for the benefit of local people."

As part of the partnership, Westleigh secured £367,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency towards the cost of the properties.
