Funding boost for sports nutrition brand

An online sports nutrition brand has been awarded a six-figure sum from Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership's (LEP) Business Growth Grant.

The award for Runcorn-based The Protein Works will support its European expansion plans and launch four local-language, local-currency websites.

Founder Karl Jacobie said: "This grant will allow us to bring forward our European expansion plans and to build on the success the business has already experienced in the UK.

"It will enable us to vastly increase our operational capacity and we will be able to recruit a further 15 staff from within the region. The grant would not have been possible without the guidance and assistance of Halton Borough Council, who have been in our corner every step of the way."

The Business Growth Grant is a £15m fund to support business growth in the region, secured by Liverpool City Region LEP from the government's Regional Growth Fund.

Jacobie added: "The award caps off a tremendous few months for us which has seen us nominated as New Business of the Year in the prestigious National Business Awards and also our move into our new 40,000 sq ft HQ facility in Runcorn."
