Connect Group launches new service with Amazon
Swindon-headquartered print wholesaler Connect Group has launched a new 'click and collect' delivery service with online retail giant Amazon.
The new collection service, known as Pass my Parcel, was developed by the group's news and media division. It will offer a twice daily distribution of goods to independent outlets, seven days a week.
"This is a very exciting opportunity for Connect Group, and is a key element of our broader diversification strategy," said group chief executive Mark Cashmore.
"Working with Amazon, our team has brought to market an efficient and flexible service that no other business can offer. Over the coming year, we plan to develop and expand the service, to thousands more retailers, recognising the scale of opportunity as a key strategic development for our news distribution business."
Christopher North, managing director of Amazon.co.uk Ltd, added: "This is our fastest pickup service yet; we know that Prime customers love fast delivery and the convenience to pick up their order at a time and place that suits them best. This new service brings together both of those great benefits."
Cashmore also hailed the group's performance during the year to 31 August 2014 after reporting pre-tax profit of £43.1m, up from £38.9m in 2013.
He said: "The group has delivered another solid trading performance. Our News & Media division had an excellent year supported by additional sales momentum from the World Cup and our Education & Care division delivered a good peak trading performance.
"Whilst the Books division has had a disappointing year, management actions have now stabilised performance."
Revenues remained flat at £1.8bn.
