Merger leads to law firm expansion

A south Devon-headquartered law firm will expand across the county this month after merging with a counterpart with offices in Bideford and Barnstaple.

Wollen Michelmore was joined by Chanter Ferguson earlier this week (1 October 2014) and now has 135 staff, 16 partners and six offices in Torquay, Paignton, Dartmouth, Newton Abbott, Barnstaple and Bideford.

Chris Hart, chief executive of Wollen Michelmore, said: "We are delighted to be joining forces with Chanter Ferguson and extending our services across Devon.

"The firm has achieved substantial and sustained growth over recent years with a concentration on the communities of South Devon serving individual, family and business clients."

Rod Mole, Chanter Ferguson's senior partner, added: "This is a very exciting development for us as we will be able to continue to offer our existing clients the same familiar faces and quality of work in property, wills, probate, litigation and family law, while expanding into new areas of work by drawing on Wollen Michelmore’s wider areas of expertise."

Wollen Michelmore was formed three years ago following the merger of Hooper & Wollen and Hard Michelmore. Both firms had been established for about 150 years.

Earlier this year, the company also acquired the Torquay practice of Lee-Barber, Goodrich & Co.

Chanter Ferguson was established in 1986 after Ferguson's Solicitors and Chanter, Burrington and Foster joined forces.
