Penllergaer civic centre on the market

Swansea's Civic Centre site in Penllergaer has been put up for sale by the city's council.

The local authority hopes to put money from selling the three-storey building toward tackling a big budget deficit.

First opened in 1982 for the former Lliw Valley Borough Council, the 68,485 sq ft premises sits on a 14.6-acre site.

Staff based at the building will be relocated during 2015 as part of the council's wider office accommodation strategy.

Commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has been appointed as sole agent to sell the building, which could be converted.

Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart said: "This is especially important at a time when we’re looking to make inroads into a major budget deficit."
