Welsh Government makes a sound investment

A former theatre sound chief is set to launch a PA system hire venture in Swansea after becoming the 100th entrepreneur to secure a start-up loan from the Welsh Government.

Tony Davies, the former head of sound at Swansea Grand Theatre, will use the £7,000 capital injection to set up Splinter's PA System Hire in the city.

Davies, who spent 25 years at Swansea Grand Theatre before leaving to work on Disney cruise liners in the US, is expecting turnover to reach £50,000 in the first year of business with the possibility of recruiting two staff to support its growth.

He said: "On my return from America and working for Disney, I decided that I wanted to become self-employed. I always had people offering me freelance work, so I decided to take that route."

The money was provided by the government's start-up loan partner, The Centre for Business.
